This easy casserole is halal-friendly, budget-conscious, and ready in under an hour, perfect for busy weeknights when tasty, hearty dinners are on the menu.

Ingredients

Scale
  • lbs ground beef (halal)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 box Cheddar Bay biscuit mix (halal-friendly)
  • ¾ cup water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, then add garlic.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  5. Stir in cream of mushroom soup and milk until combined.
  6. Spread the beef mixture evenly in the baking dish and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  7. In a bowl, prepare the biscuit mix with water according to package directions. Spoon batter evenly over the casserole.
  8. Drizzle melted butter over the top.
  9. Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes until biscuits are golden and cooked through.
  10. Let rest for 5 minutes, garnish if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Prep ahead: you can brown the beef and sauce up to 1 day in advance; store separately and assemble before baking.
  • Gluten option: use a gluten-free biscuit mix if needed. Cooking times may vary slightly.
  • For non-halal beef, regular ground beef can be substituted.
  • Oven times may vary; cover with foil if the top browns too quickly.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley for a pop of color.
