Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. In the bread machine pan, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  2. Add bread flour, salt, and softened butter. Start the dough cycle to knead.
  3. When kneading is complete, sprinkle shredded cheese over the dough and let the machine mix it in.
  4. Allow the dough to rise in the machine until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Shape the risen dough into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan.
  6. Let the loaf rise again for 30 minutes.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 30‑35 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool on a rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For a spicier loaf
  • add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes with the cheese. Brush the top with melted butter before baking for extra shine.
