Ingredients

  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 23 halal chicken sausages, sliced into rounds
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups small broccoli florets
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup heavy cream or cooking cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: crushed red pepper flakes or lemon zest for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until soft, about 3–4 minutes.
  2. Stir in garlic and chicken sausage slices. Cook until sausage is browned and heated through, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the orzo and stir for 1–2 minutes to lightly toast.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the broccoli and cook uncovered for another 3–4 minutes until orzo is tender and broccoli is bright green and crisp-tender.
  6. Stir in Parmesan cheese and cream. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Garnish with red pepper flakes or lemon zest if desired. Serve warm.

  • For the best color and texture, add broccoli during the final minutes of cooking so it stays bright and crisp-tender.
  • To keep broccoli tasting fresh, you can blanch florets separately in boiling salted water for 1–2 minutes, then add to the skillet at the end.
