Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (halal version)
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet (1 oz) onion soup mix
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Form into 1-inch meatballs.
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute, then slowly pour in beef broth while whisking until smooth. Add onion soup mix and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 2 minutes.
- Place meatballs in the Crockpot and pour the onion gravy over them.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours, until meatballs are fully cooked and tender.
- Sprinkle cheese over the top in the last 10 minutes of cooking until melted and bubbly. Garnish with parsley and serve warm with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.
Notes
- Brown the meatballs lightly in a skillet before adding to the slow cooker for extra flavor.
- For thicker gravy, whisk in a bit more flour mixed with beef broth before adding onion soup mix.
- Leftovers reheat well in the microwave or on the stove.
- You can use any shredded cheese you prefer (mozzarella or provolone).
