Description

Crockpot French Onion Meatballs are a comforting, creamy dinner you can set and forget. Juicy beef meatballs simmer in a rich French onion gravy with thyme and Worcestershire, finished with melted mozzarella for a cozy, restaurant-style flavor. This easy slow cooker recipe uses pantry staples, yields 4 hearty servings, and pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread for a complete family-favorite meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (halal version)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 packet (1 oz) onion soup mix
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Form into 1-inch meatballs.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute, then slowly pour in beef broth while whisking until smooth. Add onion soup mix and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 2 minutes.
  3. Place meatballs in the Crockpot and pour the onion gravy over them.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours, until meatballs are fully cooked and tender.
  5. Sprinkle cheese over the top in the last 10 minutes of cooking until melted and bubbly. Garnish with parsley and serve warm with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.

Notes

  • Brown the meatballs lightly in a skillet before adding to the slow cooker for extra flavor.
  • For thicker gravy, whisk in a bit more flour mixed with beef broth before adding onion soup mix.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the microwave or on the stove.
  • You can use any shredded cheese you prefer (mozzarella or provolone).
