Scale
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 12 oz halal beef or turkey sausage, sliced

- 1 bell pepper (red or yellow), diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- 1¾ cups chicken broth
- ⅓ cup BBQ sauce (halal)
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 4–5 minutes. Remove and set aside.

- Stir in the rice and cook for 1–2 minutes to toast slightly.
- Add chicken broth, BBQ sauce, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar. Stir to combine.
- Return sausage to the skillet. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
- Cover and simmer for 20–25 minutes, or until rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed.
- Fluff rice with a fork, season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- This recipe uses halal sausage (beef or turkey). If using traditional pork sausage, ensure it fits dietary needs.
- If you want a spicier dish, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the skillet with the onions.
- For a gluten-free option, make sure the BBQ sauce is labeled gluten-free.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
- If the rice isn’t fully cooked after the initial simmer, add a splash of broth and cook a few more minutes.
