This quick, one-pan casserole bakes to bubbling perfection in about 35 minutes and serves six. Made with halal beef and pantry staples, it’s an easy weeknight dinner that delivers comforting, crowd-pleasing flavor without fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (halal)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (halal)
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough, cut into quarters
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional: sliced green onions for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, garlic, and bell pepper until the beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5 minutes.
  4. Transfer the sloppy joe mixture into the baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top.
  6. Arrange the biscuit dough pieces evenly over the casserole.
  7. Bake 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden and cooked through.
  8. Let rest 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with green onions if desired.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use turkey or chicken instead of beef.
  • Feel free to add extra vegetables like corn or mushrooms for added texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • To freeze, assemble (without baking) and freeze up to 2 months; bake directly from frozen, adding 5-10 minutes.
